SELWG 2016.

Andy and I attended the SELWG Show at Crystal Palace on Sunday. A reasonable sized show with a good mix of traders it has sadly been a tad disappointing (in my humble opinion) over the last couple of years.

I must say I did enjoy it much more this year although it still feels like it is missing something. Perhaps it is the venue (big but oddly split over levels, bemused swimmers next door and little in the way of food/drink/seating areas)?  Maybe it was not as busy? Were there a couple of my favourite traders missing (Crooked Dice, Heresy, Sarissa, Warbases, Gripping Beast etc)? Maybe I was just annoyed at Warlord Games (who were present) and their dropping of the ball on the Doctor Who miniatures so far?

Either way, there were some good games on show and a pleasant atmosphere.

It was great chatting to friends (SEEMS and The League of Gentlemen aka Anti Alchemists) who both had tables and the highlight had to be the South London Warlords Doctor Who game which was fantastic eye candy!

There were a few other nice looking games that I forgot to take pics of, mainly on the upstairs section.

My haul for the day included two Opsrey books to fuel my current obsession with all things "Winter of '79" since I had painted up the excellent Army men from Crooked Dice.

I also picked up the new "Congo" rules from Studio Tomahawk - my only planned purchase of the day (thanks to the guys at Wargames Foundry who gave me a tenner off the retail price! #loveWargamesFoundry) plus a pack of Foundry tribal archers for said game (I already have tons of DA figures but could not resist as I had just saved ten quid with the Foundry folk...). Lastly, my final obligatory panic buy at the end of the show was a resin wall set from the excellent Debris of War having seen a set on the League of Gentlemens table.

 I think this will always remain a constant in our show attendance but I really need to try and get to some other shows at some point.

Salute 2016 and UK Games Expo 2016.

Despite attending this years SALUTE I neglected to take any pictures of said event - needless to say it was big, busy and I spent waaaay too much money. Still the show to get to but exhausting and commercial. Having mentioned commercial...

...My next show on the calendar was in fact assist my mate Andy with his company DMB Games at the UK Games Expo in Birmingham. 3 days of traders, beers and games.

An excellent experience and very profitable (both financially and promotionally) for DMB.

Wild West - It's A Hanging Day.

A few pics from a recent Wild West game run by Robafett.

The setting is Dead Dog Gulch, a small backwater town somewhere in the depths of Inconsequence County.

A local ruffian going by the moniker of 'The Silver Kid' has finally been caught and is facing the gallows.

The Sheriff of The Gulch, Morgan, and his deputies, Tightson, Primcup, O'Ryan and Coburn are intent on having a hanging today and the local crowd has gathered. The Reverend Stickler reads scripture to the crowd as they wait.

Little know to the Law, two other groups have arrived in town over the last day. First, The Black Gun Gang, led by Jonas 'Black Gun' Quinn, with his surly mob, Bo 'Sonny' Stocks, Luke 'Red Beard Junior' Stocks, Henry 'Ratface' Harrison and Asumpta 'Princess' McCoy (nee Quinn) have turned out to make sure nobody tries to save 'The Silver Kid' from his well earned fate...he was the varmint responsible for gunning down 'Little' Joey Hamstringer. Most of the gang are waiting in the Strawberry Brothel but 'Princess' and 'Ratface' lurk outside near the gallows.

Also in town are a posse hired by 'The Silver Kids' pop (gawd knows what a b'std that fella is...) to get him the hell out of Gulch and back to the safety of the Ranch. Joshua Tremble, Lem Wenkleman, Sam O'Callahan, Bart McKendry and Bob 'The Kid' Jenkins make up this group of 'innocent' ranchers.

The scene is set...the Sheriff and his deputies bring out 'The Silver Kid' from the jail just down the street...meanwhile, the other interested parties start to move into position...

Well...as can be expected, absolute carnage ensued and a whole lot of poor civilian folk met their maker!

Cavalier 2016.

Better late than never...

Robafett and I attended the Cavalier show at Tonbridge again - its fast becoming one of our mainstay shows on the calendar, Salute (huge and busy) and SELWG (disappointing again last year sadly) and I always find this a pleasant little show that I have developed a bit of a soft spot for. Friendly atmosphere, a few good displays (but not over the top) and a reasonable selection of traders.

The SEEMS gang had a Viking game on in the main games hall whilst our pals Chris and John (aka League of Gentlemen Anti Alchemists) were running a participation game based on the early exploits of a young Erwin Rommel during the First World War as he tries to fight his way through a small town swarming with French!

There were a few other games that I seem to have missed taking pics of but all looked good, including The Maidstone Wargames Society who won Best Demonstration Game of the day.

The Anti Alchemists won the Best Participation Game - Rob and I managed to play and it was great fun.

Picked up a few goodies from the traders - C3P0/R2D2 and Boba Fett for Imperial Assault, a pack of 'Bandidos' from Knuckleduster (that was unexpected...I'm blaming Colgar6...) some plastic grass and a box of 32 Copplestone sci-fi troopers for £20 from the Bring & Buy.

All in all a nice day out.
